Roger that. good processes, I'm tucking away everyone's suggestions to try. I've got ForeFlight on an iPad for serious cross countries and I have DroidEFB on my Android phone every day toodling around or short cross country. (Backed up by a current paper chart). Looking forward to binge watching his Vids. Just have to get through this coming week, then I will finally be free from the rat race.

Cheers!

Roger that, sounds like that was a good flight. Understanding weather, mountain wave, density altitude and how an 85HP performs in these conditions are very good things to learn from the experience 'Coupe pilots. Good insights ahead of practicing. We have Mt Monadnock and a few nmi away is a line of Mountains including Mt. Snow in Vt.across the Connecticut river.

Cheers!

I would do the same thing with skyvector (or aopa's flight planner, which has a route elevation profile available). I'd start with my ultimate destination as a direct route overlaid on the sectional then start adjusting the route into about 250-300 mile legs avoiding the terrain, keeping close to airports and/or major roads. Jame's videos are excellent.

When I moved 3378H from Nevada to northern Colorado I went along I-80 ish I’ve also moved some other low powered planes the southern route across AZ and NM. Which way to go I suppose really depends on the weather and where you’re going. As far as actually flying in the Rockies I’ve done a little bit manly from the Denver area to steamboat springs and Western CO. With 85HP timing the weather and other considerations could be a whole different topic of conversation.

Just for fun I ran several scenarios through Grok. I'm a somewhat pleasantly surprised. I also subscribed to James Good's channel on Youtube. Can't post or ask questions yet for 24 hours it seems. No worries. Thanks for the tip!

Grok actually did a good job planning each flight through the lowest points through the Rockies with the parameters I plugged in. Also had good points and advice on each. All I had to do was plug in the waypoints/airports Grok gave me into Skyvector and then tweak it a smidge. Pop that into Google Earth and I could see where/what the elevations were along the route. Just need to be specific when asking the AI else you can get long routes.

Cheers!

Google Earth US Airspace Overlays: 3dairspace.org.uk/
FPL to KML converter: www.aerialsphere.com/fpl-to-kml/

You can also click on any of the airspace objects and it pops up a dialog window that tells all about that airspace, screen shot for reference:

Cheers!
