Ken, does Shawnee also have hard surface runway . My Ercoupe would break out in a nervous sweat if she had to take off at gross (and we are always at gross) on a grass strip.2500
Do they allow camping ?

Scott Lee, owner of Red Cloud Aviation in Shawnee and Seminole OK called me recently. He wants to host a Fall regional in Shawnee OK.
The city’s airport board has jumped on board and has offered to put up a couple thousand dollars to support the event. This would go to finance meals, etc. which should greatly reduce our costs. The city tourism board also supports it. Scott has ideas for fly outs for an aviation museum, lunch, and even a fly out to Tinker Air Force Base and tours of AWACs and other planes.
By Fall, the newly restored 2500 foot grass strip at Shawnee will be open.

He has experience running events like this. It would be a very centralized location and sounds like it would be an amazing weekend. He suggests late September or early October.

He also offered to host the National sometime in the future.

I’d like to get expressions of interest in such an event. No commitments yet.

What do you think? It would be an easy flight from anywhere in the middle of the country.
