Thanks to 9994. I think you hit the problem. I'll check it out. Regards, Larry

I don't think the two systems share any components. The VSI runs off the pitot pressure, the AH runs off a vacuum. However, if the hoses for the two got inadvertently switched, there would now be pressure where there should be vaccum and vice versa. It might make those gauges reversed.

I'm not much help here, but I would have someone who knows check the air tubing out in your plane. VSI could just be a line connected to the wrong place, and artificial horizons are gyro instruments and it could be just plain not working. I assume you have a venturi driving the artificial horizon, perhaps there's a kink in the air line between them...

You're not by any chance flying inverted are you? That might explain it. :-)

My Ercoupe 415C is wonderful except for one problem and I don't know what to look for. When flying my artificial horizon will turn upside down and my VSI (vertical speed indicator) reads backwards. When I go up it reads going down and so on. Because they are happening together I'm wondering if they have a common cause. I'm not sure what to look for. Even if I can't fix it myself, I like to know the cause so some mechanic can't nail me to the wall. Thanks for any help you can give me. The plane does have a venturi on the left side.
