The Northwest Antique Airplane Club (NWAAC) annual fly-in has become a regular Ercoupe flocking event. Ever since Buzz Dolum won the Best Postwar Award a couple of years ago, we have had a regular gathering at Evergreen Field in Vancouver, Washington. And it just gets better each year!
On August 16, four `coupes came in. They got primo parking spots on the front line. By Saturday, the 18th, there were five more Ercoupes scattered around the 'north forty,' as well as one that taxied down from the North-South Airpark. Did I mention that there are usually two tied down there also?
That evening, one of the newest members of the Oregon Ercoupe Erforce (OK, he lives in Washington, but...) invited us over for a `burger feed. His lovely home is located on the North-South Airpark, which joins Evergreen. There was plenty for everyone - hot dogs, hamburgers, potatoe salad, cold soda, chips, and Our Favorite Liquid Post-Flying Beverage (this is the northwest, you know). And everyone just had to look at the other Ercoupe that calls the North-South home!
I would like to thank the following `coupers for attending: Darryl Meeks, Ted Lechner, Jack Caldwell, Donald Cooley, Jake Hume, Buzz Dolum, Tom Dugas, Bob Saville (Oreg. Wing Leader), Maynard Smith, and the others whose names I missed. And a special thanks to our hosts Alan and Colleen Lail, as well as Alan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lail. Like the little man says "We Had A Great Time!"
